Choosing a Triplex Plunger Pump for Your Pressure Washer
A pressure washer is a powerful tool that can quickly and efficiently remove dirt, grime and algae from surfaces. It also cleans equipment and vehicles. To use it effectively, you need a powerful pump that can provide the pressure and flow required to get your job done.
The best pump type for your application depends on a few things: what kind of water you're cleaning, the PSI and GPM your pressure washer needs to deliver and where you plan to use it. Most pumps come in one of two types: plunger and piston.
Plunger pumps are designed for high-pressure applications (higher than what sump pumps can deliver). They're also engineered to be durable and withstand repeated use.
Piston pumps are designed for low-pressure applications and are less durable than plunger pumps. The seals on piston pumps wear out faster and cannot handle the same amount of pressure as a plunger pump's.
Battery-powered 12V equipment is a great way to save on fuel costs and prevent downtime because of breakdowns and repairs. It's quieter and easier to transport than gas-powered equipment.
Often, the leading cause of pump failure is due to system restrictions or component wear. For example, if the inlet line is blocked, air will be sucked into the pump and pressurized when the power washer is at full force, causing cavitation. Cavitation will damage the packing and piston surfaces and may even break the pump.
When you need to replace the pump on a professional model, look for a triplex plunger pump. These are more expensive than axial cam or wobble pumps but will have a longer lifespan and will recoup their cost over time.
